The Island Insurance Foundation announced a $10,000 donation to Teach For America-Hawaii, to support the nonprofit’s work in high-need communities. Teach For America recruits, trains and supports recent college graduates and professionals who make a two-year commitment to teach in under-resourced communities and gain the foundational experience for a lifetime of educational leadership and advocacy. The organization has partnered with schools in Hawai’i since 2006 and currently supports approximately 147 teachers who will collectively impact over 12,000 students this school year.

The Island Insurance Foundation donation will support the training and on-going leadership development of teachers and program alumni dedicated to working alongside community efforts to ensure that all students have the educational opportunities they deserve. Teach For America Hawai‘i corps members are public school teachers in 40 schools on O‘ahu and the Big Island serving populations and communities from Native Hawaiian Homesteads to military bases and charter schools. This is the sixth year the foundation has donated to Teach For America-Hawai’i.

Teach for America is the national corps of outstanding recent college graduates and professionals who commit to teach for two years in urban and rural public schools and become lifelong leaders in expanding educational opportunity. Today, more than 10,000 corps members are teaching in 46 regions across the country while nearly 28,000 Teach for America alumni continue working from inside and outside the field of education for the fundamental changes necessary to ensure educational excellence and equity.
