Pacific Beach Summer Festival (Matsuri)

There are two weekends remaining at the Pacific Beach Hotel's Matsuri Festival in Waikiki with traditional Japanese food booths, Taiko and Bon dancing

There are two more weekends to enjoy the Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival) at the Pacific Beach Hotel and two exciting Taiko groups performing every Friday, Saturday and Sunday evening from August 19 until August 28, 2011 across the street from Waikiki Beach.

Both Hawaii Matsuri Taiko and Somei Taiko groups will perform each evening of the festival. In addition, there is Bon dance with guests invited to join the circle and dance. Soto Mission members will dance on August 19 Miyazono Minyou Buyo kai will be the Bon dance group on August 20 and 21 as well as August 27 and 28.

Okinawa Eisha dancing will be featured on Friday, August 26. It is the Bon dances enjoyed at festivals and special events in Okinawa during Obon season.

The traditional Japanese celebration will feature food, children’s games, entertainment and bon dancing and music. Everyone is invited with no charge for admission.

This year, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to assist in Japan’s recovery effort from the earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with yatai (food booth) and yomise (games & toys) available to guests, kama’aina and visitors. Traditional Japanese dishes will be offered for sale including okonomiyaki (Japanese savory pancakes), yakisoba (fried noodles), udon noodles and great desserts and sweets.
