Public Invited to Pacific Health Research Laboratory at Kalaeloa Informational Briefing July 11 at Kapolei High School

An informational briefing for the public to learn about the proposed Pacific Health Research Laboratory (PHRL) at Kalaeloa will be held on Wednesday, July 11, 2012 from 6:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. at the Kapolei High School Cafetorium at 91-5007 Kapolei Parkway. Representatives from the University of Hawaii Administration and the John A. Burns School of Medicine will give an overview presentation and answer questions about the project.

The Pacific Health Research Laboratory at Kalaeloa will be located on a two-acre site on Saratoga Avenue at Kalaeloa, near the Hawaii National Guard and FBI Hawaii’s headquarters in West Oahu.

The PHRL will be part of the National Institutes of Health national network of 15 bio-safety laboratories built and operated by different U.S. universities. The mission of the laboratory is to develop new diagnostics and effective low-cost treatments and vaccines for infectious diseases, particularly those found in the Asia-Pacific Region. The informational briefing will allow the public to learn more about this vital new public health and research asset for Hawaii. The event is free and open to the public and light refreshments will be served. For more information visit www.phrl.hawaii.edu.
