Final Matsuri Weekend at Pacific Beach

Hungry Folks Waiting for Yakimochi Last Weekend at Pacific Beach Hotel Matsuri

Enjoy the final weekend of Pacific Beach Hotel’s outdoor Natsu Matsuri (Summer Festival), one of the last events on Oahu’s Obon calendar. This family-friendly, free-admission event features taiko performances, esteemed local music artists, a traditional bon dance, and a variety of food vendors.

To start the final weekend, Okinawa Eisa will lead the Bon dancing on Friday, with Miyazono Minyo Buyo Kai leading on Saturday and Sunday. Residents and visitors are invited to participate in this traditional activity honoring the departed spirits in one’s family.

Each night will feature different entertainment, with Okinawa Eisa on Friday, former Na Hoku Hanohano-award winning artist Eric Lee on Saturday and ukulele star Bruce Shimabukuro on Sunday night – giving patrons a reason to return nightly.

This year, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to assist in Japan’s recovery effort from the earthquake and tsunami on March 11.

Festivities begin at 5:30 p.m. with yatai (food booth) and yomise (games & toys). Freshly prepared Japanese food items will be for sale including chicken karaage (fried chicken), yakisoba (fried noodles), cone sushi and delicious desserts and sweets.
